Our story

PhotoProAI was founded by Maohua in early 2023, who was soon joined by Wouter as his co-founder. Both Maohua and Wouter share a passion for photography and - importantly - for technology. They both have decades of experience working in the technology industry, at companies such as Tencent, ByteDance (the owner of TikTok) and Google. Maohua has an engineering background in machine learning / artificial intelligence, while Wouter focuses on the business side, having previously been part of the team responsible for launching and marketing AI-powered devices at Google.

In early 2023, a lot of new services launched that allow users to generate photorealistic imagery using the power of machine learning. Many of these services are based on open-source models such as Stable Diffusion. Maohua and Wouter were impressed by these new developments in machine learning, but disappointed in the quality of the imagery provided by many websites offering AI-generated portraits. They soon set out to build a better, more streamlined and more accessible service by improving the models used to generate imagery. The result is PhotoProAI, which ultimately launched in July 2023.

Though PhotoProAI was launched just a short while ago, the underlying model took many months to build and optimize.

Our Mission

With PhotoProAI, we aim to make the power of AI-generated portrait imagery accessible to everyone. PhotoProAI is much easier to use than other services because it requires just a single image as input. And because the training model is highly optimized, we spend less computing time on generating realistic looking portraits. This means the portrait will be available nearly instantly, and the service can be much cheaper than other competing services.

What's Next

The feedback from our users has been overwhelmingly positive, but we're not sitting still. We'll continue to make improvements to the machine learning model as well as the website functionality, so that we can continue to provide the best photo-realistic imagery in the industry, at an affordable price point.
